How to Prepare Artwork for a Custom Card Skin

Custom Card Skin Artwork: Upload and Layout Guide

A custom card skin starts with artwork that reads clearly at wallet size. Use your own photo, illustration or pattern, then position it in the custom designer before ordering.

Choose an image with a clear subject

Pick artwork you own or have permission to print. A strong silhouette, a simple background and a limited color palette are easier to recognize on a small card than a crowded scene. Use the original image file rather than a screenshot or a thumbnail copied from a preview.

Landscape images usually need less cropping for a horizontal card. Portrait photos can still work, but leave room around the subject so you can move it without cutting off a face. Never upload a photograph containing real payment-card details.

Upload and position your artwork

Open the designer and upload your image. Use Fill card to cover the available area, or Keep original to preserve the image proportions with space around it when needed. Stretch can distort faces and shapes, so inspect the preview carefully.

Move and resize the image until the important details sit inside the visible area. If the designer shows a low-resolution warning, try a larger original file. Enlarging a small image cannot restore missing detail. The photo upload guide explains more ways to prepare a clean image.

Plan around the chip and cover

Choose the cover style and chip option before finalizing the crop. Card Skins fit standard CR80 cards, approximately 3.375 × 2.125 inches (85.6 × 54 mm). Compare the Small Chip or No Chip option with your actual card.

Full Cover gives artwork the most room. Full Cover w/ Window needs the window to align with your number row. Half Cover leaves the lower portion uncovered and reduces the available image area. Read the cover-style comparison before choosing.

Keep faces, lettering and small symbols away from the chip opening and trim edges. Recheck their placement after changing the cover style.

Add readable text

A name or short phrase is easier to read than a long sentence. Use the designer text controls to choose a font, color and size. Check spelling and make sure the letters contrast with the background. A quiet part of the image is a better location for text than an area full of fine detail.

Review before adding to your cart

  • Inspect the whole design at approximately real card size.
  • Confirm that the subject survives the crop and chip cutout.
  • Check the cover style, chip option and spelling.
  • Use an original image with enough detail for printing.

Each $11.99 order includes one skin plus three free duplicates of the same design and selected options, with free USA shipping. The duplicates are matching copies, not four separately customized designs. See the custom designer walkthrough for the complete ordering process.
